Missing your old LJ layouts that GJ doesn't provide? I was going just a wee bit crazy over Tranquility II because I am a creature of comfort & habit (not to mention the hours spent tweaking it to my exact liking made me loathe to give it up).

So I did a search on Google and found this lovely, fantastic, wonderful person, who made my life so much easier by providing the most awesome & simplistic way to get my LJ layout on GJ:

Providing ways to get
3 Column
Flexible Squares
Opal
Smooth Sailing
Tranquility II

ETA - It works on Insanejournal too!!!

Title: Benton and the Kitten
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aerama
Genre: Doctor Who, Pertwee era
Characters: Benton, Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart
Rating: PG
Summary: A kitten escapes into the Brigadier's office.
Word Count: 1,187
Notes: One-shot. Pure unadulterated fluff. Gen, but with the merest, teeniest glimmer of pre-slash, easily overlooked if one so chooses.
"Scritch" doesn't seem to be a real word, but it should be. Giftfic for [livejournal.com profile] livii.
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kayakinccou for looking over!

Try this one. It won't disappoint.
A Fair Fellowship of Young Squires by After the Rain.
Rating: G
Length: Approx. 2,500 words
Summary: Sir Cadogan tells a group of first-year boys the story of King Arthur.

I always did love Malory.

aerama: (So fabulous!)
I never expected this!
The Spy Pumpkins, or Something Happened to Me Yesterday (starring Peter Pettigrew and talkative orange vegetables), was Niffled today!

*puts on explanation-hat* Niffling is a form of recognition - a Niffler (over at Fictionalley) "shares shiny things with the fandom," in this case fics that are "particularly well written, interesting, creative or otherwise worth reading."

Which - wow - totally flabbergasts me because I know that story was a strange one. I'd pretty much resigned it to an Acquired Taste genre.

This is as good a place as any to mention something else, too:
"A Fitting Reward" - my Madam Pince library story - is now hosted on the website Insane in the Basement, specifically in the HP Fiction archive!

Also I saw hosted "The Secret of Our Success," the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] yaycoffee story about how Fred and George got that Marauder's Map in the first place. Go check it out!

I had actually never heard of that site, but I was contacted by the moderator for permission, who had gotten it off HP Recs, which I also didn't know about.

This is a great day for finding out about things. Just had to share!

Found entirely because of [livejournal.com profile] clen3k:

SPREAD THE FANDOM LOVE!

In the spirit of love'n'friendship, this meme is for anybody!

aerama: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] minnow_53 thought up a brilliant meme a couple months ago.

Write the last paragraph of Book 7, bearing in mind the last word ('scar').

Now that we've got the title for the last HP book, I think it is only fitting to introduce the
Last Paragraph Meme.

Here's mine:
"'Hot damn,' said Harry, and with a laugh that held all of his lost youth, he pelted full-force through the Veil, which billowed for a moment with the sound of hundreds of voices. An odd clanging sound rang dully on the flagstones. Looking down, Hermione and Ron saw that he had left behind something for them after all - his scar."

Go forth and pimp, carry it onto your own journal, enjoy!

I need to find this book. I don't know the title or author. But I do have dim remembrances of the plot.
This was a children's book, with pictures. I read it when I was young.

Summary:
- Two alligators - or crocodiles - are in a house.
- Another alligator or croc comes to visit with a bottle of wine.
- The visitor sits on the couch.
- The couch eats the visitor, leaving only his glasses and possibly a cravat.
- The eaten gator or croc was named Warwick. I think.
- It is also possible that the household gators or crocs had the wine in the first place.
- I do believe that there were the two species in that book - i.e., if there were alligators in the house, then it was a croc that came to visit, and vice versa. But I could be wrong.
- I recall that the pictures were done in lurid, darkly-lit tones. Possibly.
- I have no idea of the actual plot or why they didn't warn him about the couch. Altercation? Fiendish glee?
- Please to note that this was a CHILDREN'S BOOK and therefore was highly appropriate subject matter for impressionable youth. *har*
Therefore, book publishing date: 70s or late 60s, I reckon. Maybe.

Just on the offchance...

Oh my GOODNESS, that took me awhile. I can bet I'll still have revisions, but for now I just feel blessed relief.

From [livejournal.com profile] mynuet, cribbed from the glorious example of [livejournal.com profile] abigail89:

Put into the subject line of a comment the name of someone in fandom that you think highly of - yourself or someone else - and then put into the comment itself something nice about that person. Check whether there's a thread for that person already or not, but otherwise go for it! Even if you've never talked to this person and just want to fangirl them for a moment, go for it! We all need to be fangirled sometimes. :)

If you put this on your own journal, please link back so that we can follow the chain o' niceness around.

Ordinarily I'm not all that sure about mass-memes of this nature. That's my disclaimer.

But this struck me as a really nice thing to do, and a timely antidote to the recent upheaval in the Potterverse.

I started thinking of the qualities of this person and that person, this other person and still another person, and it turned into a huge chain of really cool stuff about all of you -

So I'm pulling the whole damn flist.

For one reason or another, you're hanging on over here, and I just want you all to know that I deeply appreciate that. You respond to my errant thoughts and support my fic-ly doings/angst. You understand about piggs. Even if you don't necessarily follow the latest triumph or despair, various fanwanking or silly posts, you're still on my list and you allow me to be on yours, even if I seem to fall off the face of the earth sometimes due to other parts of RL surging to the fore. Even if you head off one day, thank you for being part of this lj. It's all good.

And all of this can create a vast feeling of connectivity that transcends the world - and when that happens, it's just glorious.

Cheers!

ETA: Apparently when it says to put a name in a comment, it means any comment in regards to this meme. *doh* I think I thought it would just be a bunch of separate ljs linked. Well, too bad. If you put this on your own journal, I'll fangirl you, so there!

Title: Grand Romantic Adventure
Author: Aerama
Main Character: Pansy Parkinson
Categories: Humor/Gen (despite the title)
Rating: PG-13
Era: HBP
Warnings: I skirt around the issue tremendously, but there is an extremely bland implication of slash.
Word Count: 4,250
Summary: One day a parchment airplane bumped into Pansy's head - and survived. It read "I love you." Who wrote it? Was it meant for her?
Author's Notes: Crabbe's attempt at awareness is a nod to [livejournal.com profile] dolorous_ett.
Colin Creevey is mentioned just because of [livejournal.com profile] the_con_cept. This was Plot Bunny #515 from Remus's Nymph on FA. Also posted on ff.net and soon-to-be on FA.

Title: Something Happened To Me Yesterday
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aerama
Rating: PG
Length: 7,099
Characters: Peter Pettigrew, Pomona Sprout
Summary: Peter Pettigrew in an experience he certainly never dreamed of.
Author's Notes: Only the idea is mine. For the January challenge at [livejournal.com profile] omniocular, and I certainly can't pretend I know if I met the challenge requirements, but there it is. It also was not meant to be this long either, but what can you do?
Title taken from the Rolling Stones song.

Special props to [livejournal.com profile] dolorous_ett for "Kate" and "Hanging Baskets."

An Interlude by Algernon Charles Swinburne.
Excerpt:
"Your feet in the full-grown grasses
Moved soft as a weak wind blows;
You passed me as April passes,
With face made out of a rose."

Platonic by Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
Excerpt:
"I knew it the first of the summer,
I knew it the same at the end,
That you and your love were plighted,
But couldn’t you be my friend?
Couldn’t we sit in the twilight,
Couldn’t we walk on the shore
With only a pleasant friendship
To bind us, and nothing more?"

Bereft, by Robert Frost.
Excerpt:
"Something sinister in the tone
Told me my secret must be known:
Word I was in the house alone
Somehow must have gotten abroad,
Word I was in my life alone,
Word I had no one left but God."

Autumn Journal, by Louis MacNeice.
Excerpt:
"September has come, it is hers,
.....Whose vitality leaps in the autumn,
Whose nature prefers
.....Trees without leaves and a fire in the fire-place;
So I give her this month and the next
.....Though the whole of my year should be hers who has rendered already
So many of its days intolerable or perplexed
.....But so many more so happy;
Who has left a scent on my life and left my walls
.....Dancing over and over with her shadow,
Whose hair is twined in all my waterfalls
.....And all of London littered with remembered kisses."

I'm pretty chuffed, I must say.
I was accepted into [livejournal.com profile] omniocular!
Gen fics, and I have a few...mostly I can't wait to read everything that's being posted during this round of introductions!
So this post is not only to say YAY! but to let people in on the gen-fic loot. I recognize a lot of the names, but not necessarily the stories, so this'll be fun.

Title: The Affair of the Chocolate Orange
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aerama
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Harry/Ginny
Setting:The Burrow, Christmas holiday, Ginny's seventh year. She's home for the holiday.
Author's Note: It is evident to me that I was influenced by this story. [livejournal.com profile] yaycoffee had recommended it, I went back to her journal, I saw the chocolate orange icon - and a holiday ficlet was born. Giftfic for [livejournal.com profile] yaycoffee
